Vietnamese Translation Services
International Translating Company delivers certified Vietnamese translation by native linguists who write Southern dialect by default for US-facing content. Vietnamese is a top-5 US immigration language and the working language of a fast-growing manufacturing economy. Whether the project is an asylum filing in San Jose, a patient consent form in Houston, or a safety manual for a Samsung supply chain in Hà Nội, your translation must be precise, culturally appropriate, and on deadline.
Vietnamese Translation for Immigration, Healthcare, and Manufacturing
Vietnamese translation demand in the US is concentrated in immigration, healthcare, and government services for the Vietnamese-American community. US-based manufacturers operating in Vietnam add a second major demand stream. ITC matches each project to the right translator and the right dialect. We have done this since 1969.
Legal & Immigration Translation
Vietnamese is one of the top five languages for US immigration translation. Asylum claims, visa applications, naturalization packets, marriage and family petitions, and adjustment of status filings all require certified translation. Filing deadlines do not move. A mistranslated date, name, or supporting document can delay or derail a case. ITC delivers certified translation with a signed, notarized certificate of accuracy, which attests that the translation is faithful and that the translator is competent, witnessed by a notary public. For legal and immigration buyers under time pressure, this is what makes a translation court-accepted and agency-ready.
Healthcare & Patient Communication
More than 1.5 million Vietnamese-Americans call the US home, concentrated in California’s Little Saigon, the Bay Area, Houston, and Seattle. Hospitals and community clinics serve these patients with informed consent forms, discharge instructions, medication guides, and patient education materials. A dosage error in translation is a patient-safety incident. ITC healthcare translation uses linguists with medical familiarity, written for the patient’s reading level, and correct in the Southern dialect most US Vietnamese families speak.
Government & Public Sector
State and local agencies in high-Vietnamese-population areas produce Vietnamese-language materials for public health campaigns, social services, education programs, and voter communications. DMV forms, public health notices, and emergency communications need to read correctly to a Vietnamese-American audience. ITC handles multilingual government communications at scale, matching the translator’s regional background to the community being served.
Manufacturing & Export Operations
Vietnam is one of the largest manufacturing economies in Southeast Asia. Electronics, textiles, footwear, and consumer goods supply chains run through factories operated by Samsung, Nike, Intel, and dozens of other global brands. These operations need Vietnamese translation for safety manuals, standard operating procedures, HR policies, training materials, and manufacturing documentation. For Vietnam-based operations, Northern dialect may be more appropriate than Southern. ITC matches translator to target audience.
Quốc Ngữ: Diacritics and Tones
Modern Vietnamese is written in Quốc Ngữ, a Latin-based alphabet with extensive diacritics for vowels and tones. Tone marks change meaning: the same base syllable with a different tone is a different word. Letters such as ă, â, ê, ô, ơ, ư, đ and the tone marks above or below vowels must be preserved in every deliverable. Place names illustrate the requirement: Việt Nam, Hà Nội, Huế, Đà Nẵng, Sài Gòn. A file that strips tones is not publishable Vietnamese. ITC delivers full Quốc Ngữ orthography and checks diacritic integrity in proofreading and QA.
Vietnamese Dialects: Northern, Central, and Southern
Vietnamese has three regional dialects: Northern (Hà Nội), Central (Huế, Đà Nẵng), and Southern (Ho Chi Minh City / Sài Gòn). These differ in pronunciation, vocabulary, and minor grammatical patterns. The Vietnamese-American diaspora is overwhelmingly Southern-dialect-origin, the result of post-1975 migration patterns. This shapes what “correct” Vietnamese means for US-facing content.
Southern Dialect (US Diaspora Default)
For US-facing written content, Southern dialect is the default. The Vietnamese-American community, formed largely by refugees and immigrants who came from South Vietnam, reads and writes in the Southern variant. A immigration filing, a hospital discharge form, or a community outreach flyer aimed at a US Vietnamese audience should use Southern vocabulary and register. A filing that arrives in Northern-dialect Vietnamese for a US audience is a red flag. ITC writes Southern dialect by default for US projects.
Northern Dialect (In-Country Operations)
For Vietnam-based manufacturing, regulatory, or corporate communications, Northern dialect may be more appropriate. Hà Nội is the political capital, and many government and regulatory communications originate there. For factory operations manuals, HR policies, and training materials for Vietnamese workers, the dialect choice depends on the factory location and the audience. ITC matches translator dialect to the project audience, not to a one-size-fits-all default.
Native, Certified Vietnamese Translators
ITC works with native, certified, professional Vietnamese linguists who translate for a living. A majority hold the highest certification available in their country and language. For Vietnamese, there is no national or international certification body equivalent to ATA for Spanish or OTTIAQ for Quebec.
This is the norm for most of the 230+ languages ITC covers. External certification bodies exist for only a fraction of the world’s languages. Where they do not, ITC qualifies its own linguists to internal standards on a more frequent cycle than any external body could. Many of ITC’s Vietnamese linguists hold language degrees and technical degrees in their specializations.
Qualifications alone do not guarantee accuracy. Process does. Every Vietnamese translation moves through translation by a native linguist, then independent proofreading by a separate linguist, then a quality assurance review. Technology is used where it is safe from a quality perspective. This multi-step process catches errors a single translator would miss.
For legal and immigration work, ITC delivers a signed, notarized certificate of accuracy with every certified translation. This is separate from the linguist’s credentials and is the document that makes the translation court-accepted and agency-ready.
